Yesterday was the day we took Ellie to TCH to get her renal ultrasound and VCUG. What that means in a nutshell is we took pictures of her kidneys and had to have a catheter inserted into her bladder. Once the catheter was in place, they shot dye up into her bladder to see if it went back up into her kidneys. from everything we saw, none of the contrast leaked upward...wonderful news.
Now, why did we have to have all this done...one little miserable bladder infection a couple months ago. she had fever for 4 days before i took her to the doctor. she didn't have any other symptoms and we didn't want to think anything was majorly wrong...just a virus or something but on the 4th morning, i said no more and off to the doctor we went. blood work and urine later, we were pretty sick on paper but Ellie was still doing really well. A round of antibiotics and a call from the pedi saying she grew E.Coli...no bueno. that's the reason we went through all this mess...
in hindsight, was it all necessary...absolutely. now every time she gets a fever, i don't have to rush to the doctor, we can wait a bit and see if it resolves and now we don't have to be on antibiotics everyday for the next year...i think that's pretty good peace of mind.

oh yuck!!! I have had many VCUG's done. One a couple years ago because of an ongoing bladder infection. So glad Eliie was ok!
