Ok...so not the news we wanted to hear when we went to see Dr. T, our cranio-facial surgeon. He is absolutely wonderful and gave us 6 weeks to see if there was going to be any improvement on it's own...didn't work out. what am I talking about??? Ellie slept with her head to the right most of the time she was a newborn. we would turn it to the left but she always seemed to turn it back to the right...so that leaves her with somewhat of a "crooked" head. it really isn't noticeable to the naked eye unless you really pay attention. with that said, I don't want to be the one explaining to a 14 year old girl that no one will really notice that one side of her forehead sticks out when she sees it in the mirror. With a very heavy heart, we went to her fitting last week and will be fitted for her orthotic in 2 weeks, April 30. The average child has to wear it for 4 months straight...23 HOURS A DAY. only comes off to take a bath and clean the helmet. Ellie is a very mild case so we are thinking more of 2-3 months max but it is growth spurt dependent.
Her "doo rag" to get scanned for her orthotic...no radiation for those concerned, just a laser that doesn't penetrate the skin.
another photo...
This is not Ellie but a precious little one with an example of what the orthotic will look like because a lot of people have never seen one.

Both of our boys saw Dr. T. He gave us the option to put Bryce in one but it was a mild case and he made us feel comfortable that he would grow out of it. So we decided not to do it. Now he just needs hair so it won't be so noticable. Good luck with everything, I feel sorry for the babies wearing it 23 hours a day.
she looks precious as ever--it is a quick fix thank goodness for you having to keep it on her.
